Sign Care
Your new sign is constructed with the highest quality materials: from the selection of the sign material--either MDO (medium density overlay) plywood made specifically for signs to choice cedar and redwood. I use only exterior grade lettering enamels and quality exterior stains.
MDO plywood exterior signs benefit from annual washing with a mild detergent and soft cloth or sponge. Using a car wash brush makes the job easy. Be sure to rinse thoroughly.
The character of the wood signs becomes more evident with exposure to the elements and will weather gracefully. If you choose to keep your redwood or cedar sign in 'brand new' condition, here are some simple steps you can take.
After about six months, you can stain the entire wood sign with Super Deck Transparent Stain DB1906 Valley. (I get it at ACE Hardware)
-
Just brush the stain over the entire sign
-
Wipe the excess stain off the cedar or redwood sign with a cotton terry rag. An old towel works great. The stain won't stick to the letters, but it might lightly 'antique' any white on the sign
-
Repeat the process yearly to keep your sign fresh and new
Installation Tip
Always drill holes through the face of the plywood, cedar or redwood sign before fastening with wood screws to posts or a building.
